End of Year Parent Letter from Mr. Loosvelt

Gayla Knight

Dear YMS Parents/Guardians

First of all, thank you for your support, patience, and perseverance as we tried to deliver the best education possible to your child during this pandemic. I know it was not easy and could be at times confusing, but I always felt that both school and home worked together, like we always do, to provide the best education possible to your child.

I am so proud of our teachers and staff at YMS. They took a terrible situation and made the best out of it. They worked hard to ensure that students still had the opportunity to learn but did not overwhelm students. I believe York Public Schools had one of the best approaches to distance learning in the state and I am proud to work alongside many great educators.

On to the next steps and finishing the year. Below is bulleted some important dates and information as we close out the 2019-20 school year:

  • 8th Grade Recognition- Administration at YPS is trying to plan some way we can honor our 8th graders at YMS and allow them an orientation at YHS. This will not happen in May, June, or July but COULD happen in August. Please know that as a district we are working on a plan to try to make this happen.
  • Report cards will be mailed home sometime around the end of May. This will also include the 3rd quarter Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. There will be no Honor Roll or Perfect Attendance for the 4th quarter.
  • If you have an 8th-grade woods project please call YMS to schedule a time to pick up your material. All fees must be paid BEFORE you can pick-up your projects.
  • Teachers will work the week of May 11-15 to gather students’ personal belongings from gym/school lockers and place in bags.
  • Process for collecting personal belongings from school/gym locker!
