NEBRASKA ACADEMIC DECATHLON PROGRAM ANNOUNCES 2017-18 SCHOLARSHIPS

As a result of the Regionals and the State Final, the Nebraska Academic Decathlon (NEAD) Program announces 183 scholarships have been earned. Scholarships are earned by 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Place schools at the seven Regionals and by 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Place schools in both the Large School Division and the Small School Division at the State Final. All earned scholarships can be claimed by a   recipient up to two years after graduation from high school.

The scholarships were earned by students in the following high schools: Ashland-Greenwood, Bellevue East, Cody-Kilgore, Cozad, Creighton Prep, Daniel Gross Catholic, Elkhorn Mount Michael Benedictine, Gretna, Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinaur, Lincoln Pius X, Loup City, Mead, Nebraska City Lourdes Central, Omaha Brownell Talbot, Omaha Bryan, Omaha Burke, Skutt Catholic, Southwest at Bartley,  Wahoo, and York.

Although the scholarship recipients have been identified, the amount of each scholarship will depend on the fundraising effort of the Nebraska Academic Decathlon Foundation by the end of the fiscal year on June 30th.  An anonymous donor has challenged the NEAD Foundation to raise the necessary funds to elevate the total scholarships to $70.750.  To meet the challenge, the NEAD Foundation has to raise $45,990. The Foundation is $14,400 from meeting the challenge.

If someone wants to help the students receive the enhanced scholarship levels, a donation can be made to the NEAD Program during the 24-hour Omaha Gives 2018 Program on May 23rd .  Please go to the Omaha Gives link  www.omahagives.org and type Nebraska Academic Decathlon in the search organization space.  When the screen comes up, make a donation with a credit card. The minimum donation is $10.  NOTE: If anybody would rather pass on using a computer to make a donation, you can mail a check to the NEAD Program at 2175 North 124th Avenue Circle; Omaha, NE 68164.
